Sand City’s 17th Annual West End Celebration is a free, family-friendly event celebrating the diversity of artistic talent to be found within Monterey County and beyond. This unique three-day celebration of community, commerce, and culture transforms the streets of Sand City into a Celebration of the Arts of every genre. Thousands of residents and visitors will discover innovative art, listen to continuous live music from multiple stages, and have an opportunity to purchase works from local painters, sculptors, and multimedia artists. Delicious, gourmet foods, and local, craft beer will be available, as well as wine tasting from local wineries.

Over a dozen of Sand City’s resident artists will welcome guests into their live/work studios. This is a unique opportunity to see how these talented individuals live, where they get their inspiration, and get up close and personal with their work. Live demonstrations and interactive arts as well as pop-up exhibits can be found around every corner. Visiting artists and artisans will also show and sell their work through out the streets of the West End Celebration. This free, two day family friendly event turns the streets of Sand City into the area’s largest conversion of artists and the best party of the year!
Continuous Live Musical Performances on Multiple Stages
Stephen Vagnini, of SLV Management, is putting together another incredibly diverse musical line up for this year’s event. Expect to hear local musicians as well as nationally recognized artists. The sounds will cover: rock; country; and blues; Indy; a dash of young, hard rock; and, of course, World Music. All performances on Saturday and Sunday are free to the public. Music schedule to be announced in March 2018.
Wine Tasting Pavilion Sales Benefit Monterey Bay Chapter Guitars Not Guns
The West End Wine Tasting Pavilion will host several local wineries who will provide tastings of their most popular varietals in a commemorative West End Celebration glass. The tickets for the wine tasting event will be $10.00 per ticket with proceeds benefiting the non-profit organization, Monterey County Chapter of Guitars Not Guns. The organization is working to raise enough funds to sponsor a new class in Monterey County.

THE BUTTERFLY PARADE
Pacific Grove’s annual Butterfly Parade, a tradition that goes back almost three-quarters of a century, is held on the first Saturday of every October. The Butterfly Parade, as well as the Butterfly Bazaar that follows, celebrates the return of the Monarch butterfly to Pacific Grove, the beautiful insects’ annual wintering stop. This parade, which first took place in 1939, attracts people from both near and far to view the adorable children in their cute costumes.
Traditionally, kindergarten children dress as butterflies, second graders dress as otters, third graders dress as farmers, fourth graders dress as pioneers, and fifth graders dress as clowns. The Butterfly Parade takes place on Saturday, October 6 beginning at 10:30am. The parade starts at the Robert H. Down School on Pine Avenue and will head down Fountain Avenue to Lighthouse Avenue, up 17th Street and concludes on Pine Avenue by returning to the school. A Butterfly Bazaar will follow after the parade.
City Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony & Santa’s Party
Festivities at Jewell Park include live entertainment by school bands and choruses, followed by caroling and refreshments at Jewell Park and Santa’s first visit at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History! The tree lighting begins at 5:30pm. More info: (831) 373-3304
Lighted parade will feature marching bands, holiday floats, dance teams, equestrian groups, and of course, Santa Claus. After the parade, stores will remain open for Holiday shopping & wagon rides, photos with Santa & carolers. This event begins at 6:00pm.
Junipero Serra School is hosting a fundraising event for our Arts and Music program. We invite all current JSS families, alumna, parish and community members to come and enjoy an adult evening of music, dinner and friendship while supporting our school! The student’s artwork will be on display. We are raising funds specifically for materials, clay, looms and instructional fieldtrips. Enjoy a Tri-Tip dinner, silent and live auction and live music.

About this Event
Join our interactive workshop for community members, parents/guardians, providers-educators, healthcare, housing, community and social workers, and all others interested in serving the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and asexual youth populations.
At this workshop, attendees will:
•Learn about LGBTQ+ terms, statistics, and issues.
•Hear personal experiences from a panel including local LGBTQ+ youth.
•Take away practical best practices for what your organization can do to better reach and serve LGBTQ+ people.

IGIS is pleased to be partnering with the Monterey Bay DART Nonprofit Organization to offer our third annual DroneCamp! This three-day intensive workshop covers everything you need to know to use drones for mapping, research, and land management, including:
- Technology – the different types of drone and sensor hardware, costs and applications
- Drone science – principles of photogrammetry and remote sensing
- Safety and regulations – learn to fly safely and legally, including tips on getting your FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate
- Mission planning – flight planning tools and principles for specific mission objectives
- Flight operations – hands-on practice with both manual and programmed flights
- Data processing – processing drone data into orthomosaics and 3D digital surface models; assessing quality control
- Data analysis – techniques for analyzing drone data in GIS and remote sensing software

- Latest trends – hear about new and upcoming developments in drone technology, data processing, and regulations
This one-day Symposium will further elevate local, regional, state and national awareness about the Monterey Bay region as a home for Drone, Automation & Robotics, Technology (DART) innovation. The Symposium will bring together industry, academic, and government thought and practice leaders to explore related topics. The outline for the day includes a series of keynote speakers bringing leading edge insight into industry, regulatory and education directions, and the potential for them to thrive in our region. Following lunch, a series of panel discussion will explore topics in more detail including: Education, Airspace & Facilities, Investing, Regulatory & Management, and Application areas in Agriculture, Marine Science, Homeland Security, and more. This content and speakers will be updated as planning for the Symposium progresses.
